    Organics in Sweden
Sales of organic products in Sweden have amounted to 478 million Euros in 2007, which represents a growth of 26 % compared with the previous year. The organic sector had a share of 4.3 % on the total food market in the country. According to a research by BioFach, each Swede spends an average 52 Euros on organic products a month.

Coop offers a range of 1,300 organic products. ICA, the most important company on the Swedish food market, had a turnover of 125 million Euros in the sector of organic food last year, a share of 26 % on the entire market. To further strengthen its position, the company has recently introduced its organic brand “I love Eco”, which is only available in the Scandinavian countries so far.

Malmö is a good example for an eco-city in Europe: green roofs and solar panels. Markets and shops in the district of Drottningtorget are all green, with even a hairdresser who has banned chemicals. There is no restaurant in town which does not serve local products. The Salt &Brygga, for example, is a restaurant which is certified Slow Food, and exclusively offers organic and Fair Trade products. Organics can be found even the most fashionable locations like Butik Ull Och Lin, Hedmanska Garden, in natural food stores (Morot & Annat, Drottingtorget), cafeterias (Barista, Karlesgatan, 2A) and even two organic ice parlours.
