    How ART has become the B E S T investment at this time;
    ================================================================================

Cycles follow one another and reppeat themselves...

Like in the early 80s and it has happened before,
The stock market had weakened and became more irregular,
Real estate bubble has burst in many palces (especially in the US with interest rates set higher)
money starting with big money naturally swifts towards the next market: ART

..and sure enought we see (as it has been happening over the past 2 years) Picassos and Warhols, and pretty much all blue chip art breaking records at auction and selling even higher privately.

Where else can one find an investment where you buy a print for a couple of hundred dollars and it is worth over 1,000 more a couple of decades later, like a print of Marylin by Warhol that can trade up to a half a million dollars today.

    the result:
booming volume of sales in auction houses,
over $900,000,000 of art changing hands in the first 3 hours of Art Basel Miami-Beach last December, and soon an explosion of a new wave of artists providing entry level prices with promissing carreers and hopes for their collectors of fame and big bucks.

Art is not only for collectors and art lovers, but has become again the top invesment market for anyone looking for high returns on his Dollars, Euros and Yenns.. spreading and exploding everywhere including in China.

This forum is an opportunity to share questions, opportunities, know-how, tips on this exciting and fascinating market..

and lets admit it, what other investment can you enjoy on a daily basis and share with your friends or visitors in the confort of your home or boat, or in your in your work place?

DID WE NEED MORE PROOFS ?

Qustions, last week in New-York, both at Sotheby's and even more so at Christie's the next day, not only confirmed the trend, but astonished more than one with new record sales

Auctions are often looked at as the barometer of the art market, and certainly contemporary and post war art sales in New-York left an impression, with over $350 Million worth of art sold by Christie's alone last week for those auctions !

    Among the most spectacular results,

    - Mark ROTHKO :a 1950 painting, "White Center (Yellow, Pink and Lavender on Rose)," sold for $72.8 million

    - Francis BACON :1962 Bacon painting of a pope, "Study from Innocent X," sold for $52.6 million.

    - Jean-Michel BASQUIAT: a 1981painting , sold for $14.6 million, setting a new auction record for the artist.

    - Andy WARHOL: a painting from the accident series selling for about $75 Million

    - Keith HARING: a large painting on... tarp going for a over $2,800,000 (3 times the estimate !!!)

... just in case you were wondering what to buy next.

As a new category of buyers has obviously stormed the art world with very large bank accounts,
numbers amoung even high end "regular" collectors, cannot follow at such level, and turn on to the next group of artists and their works which in turn gets new supporters, and trade at incresing prices

This effect snowballs down to new groups of younger artists

At ENTRY LEVEL, that is turning as one of the best opportunity ever to get into the dance, and acquire first works of art even bellow the $1,000 mark.

Now what to buy, is another story
Check for the forums and events of the group to get further into this exciting subject.

Re^2: How ART has become the B E S T investment at this time
Last Thursday August the 16th 2007, was considered a black Thursday in all financial places around the world.

I often reffer to the art market (as an investment opportunity) as part of the "3 snakes"
The first snake being the stock market
The second one the real estate market
The third one the Art market.

when the first one goes down, usually real estate takes over .. until interest rates go up to high and then drops.. and this is when most glorious days come over the Art world and art markets around the world.
That is exactly what happened in the 80's and again what is happening now.
Even more so, the realestate in the US has banked so much on growth that it is again bring down the financial markets as they were slowly recuparating.

The financial places are in serious limbo, and one can anticipate as a result mind buggling record sales at fall auctions for modern and contemporary art.

    TIME TO STOCK UP !!!

I have a couple of Warhols, Harings and Picassos for you, and I am not the only one
Good pieces become rare, and prices go up fast
Look also into the new generation, and into who manages the artist as well as the artist and his art, before you buy.
Photography can be a clever field for entry level budgets and first acquisitions.

Either way, stick with the big names.

I believe we could host an upcomming conference for the group on the subject, possibly by October, if the interest of members is confirmed.
