Hello everybody,

I have been working in the IT field since the time when you had to invent and program everything yourself, no matter how simple or complex the problem was. As time went by, more and more ready-made software became available, so that the focus gradually moved from programming to integrating.

Meanwhile, in many felds, we have a technological overkill. This is like having a dozen or more different hammers in your tools bag, when it's only about driving a nail cleanly into the wall. Which hammer would you choose?

In the past weeks and months I came across lots of tools and products, each of which might (or might not) solve my problems, or at least parts of them, with some additional programming from my part.

Now, as I was riding the internet ghost train, with new skeletons behind every bend, I came across the Pentaho BI suite by mere chance. Indeed I had read the word Pentaho somewhere in the Eclipse context, but did not know what it was actually about.

What I have read about Pentaho so far, sounds very promising. It seems that really elaborate applications can be built with it. On the other hand, there seems to be a certain learning curve.

I am glad to have found here in XING a group which deals with this software and hope to get enough information to be able to judge if Pentaho is the right hammer for driving my nail, possibly more than only one, into he wall.

So, I would appreciate direct contact with any of the members who are willng to share their experience.
