    Released Today: Qt 4.6 and Qt Creator 1.3 plus Tech Previews of New Qt APIs and Maemo 5 port
    We are pleased to announce that Qt 4.6 and Qt Creator 1.3 are released and available for download -- either separately or as part of an updated Qt SDK. Commercially licensed versions of all releases are available for download from customer download areas, and LGPL versions are available from http://qt.nokia.com/downloads.

    Also released today is a second Technology Preview for the Qt port to Mameo 5, as well as a Technology Preview of New Qt APIs.

    Qt 4.6
    ------
    Version 4.6 of the Qt cross-platform application and UI framework brings new features and improvements to make it even easier for developers to:

    - Create more exciting user experiences
    - Target new platforms, including Windows 7, Maemo 6 and Symbian
    - Ensure better runtime performance of Qt-based apps

    Qt Creator 1.3
    --------------
    Version 1.3 of the Qt Creator IDE introduces new features to make cross-platform development with Qt even easier.

    - Preliminary support for Symbian development
    - Source code refactoring
    - Multi-core compilation with MSVC
    - Updated toolchain to MinGW 4.4

    New Support for Symbian
    -----------------------
    Qt now provides support for the Symbian platform with integration to the S60 framework. Qt 4.6.0 can be used to develop commercial Symbian applications for deployment in first quarter of 2010. With Qt for Symbian you can:

    - Target 130 million Symbian devices
    - Choose between native and customized look and feel
    - Mix local and remote content when creating hybrid applications


    New Qt APIs Technology Preview
    ------------------------------
    These new Qt APIs not only enable standard mobile functionality in Qt applications, but alsos provide useful application functionality across desktop platforms. The source package includes seven new cross-platform APIs:

    - Bearer Management
    - Contacts
    - Location
    - Messaging
    - Multimedia
    - Publish and Subscribe
    - Service Framework
    - System Information

    Qt for Maemo 5 Technology Preview II
    ------------------------------------
    This second Technology Preview containing all Qt modules and features the same functionality as the Qt on X11 version. In addition, some Maemo specific features have been added:

    - Improved finger touch styling and kinetic scrolling
    - Extended window attributes: screen rotation, busy indicators and more
    - Native dialogs and themed icons
    - Better support for QGLWidget and the OpenGL/ES 2 paint engine
    - Additional widgets / classes to support Maemo 5 specific look and feel


    Updated Visual Studio Add-in and Eclipse Integration
    ----------------------------------------------------
    The Qt Eclipse Integration and Visual Studio Add-in have been updated for the Qt 4.6 release, and are available for download from http://qt.nokia.com/downloads.


    Changes to Supported Platforms
    ------------------------------
    With the 4.6 release, we are announcing changes to our list of supported platforms that will be introduced from the release of Qt 4.7 in 2010. For details on which platforms are affected, please visit the Qt documentation at:

    New, Shorter Response Time for Qt Support
    -----------------------------------------

    Re: Qt killed by Andoid?
    Hi Guido, I'd like to give the the advice, to go to Youtube and search for 'declarative ui' or 'qml'.
    Afterwards we might start the discussion how dead qt will be in the near future for real.
