Hi guys,
I have to confess, I was at least 150.000 years off. In my last talk at reboot [1] I said that humans started to develop language about 100.000 years ago. Well, I think I have to adjust this statement to at least 250.000 years. The Neanderthal man's larynge was large enough to give room to a resonating cavity that is necessary to speak. Their skull was large enough to hold a brain, than can develop language. And last not least, genetics can prove, that the foxp2 gen was alrady mutated for the Neanderthaler.
Maybe language is even older, but there is no gen material left prior to the Neanderthal men.
sorry ;-)
Matthias
