Dear All,
The Holy Month of Ramadan is expected to begin on or around August 1, in 2011 (depending on the sighting of the moon) and will end on or around August 30. In the Islamic lunar calender, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day. The current Islamic year is 1432.
Ramadan (Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan, Ramdan, Ramadaan) (also known as Ramaḍān al-Karīm – “Ramadan, the Generous”) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and the month in which the Quran was revealed, and will be celebrated for 30 days by more than one billion Muslims around the world, uniting all Muslims in fasting, worship and prayer. It is a time for contemplation, spirituality and brotherhood. The message of communal responsibility is reinforced through fasting, encouraging empathy with and compassion for those who are less fortunate. Ramadan is the holiest of months in the Islamic calendar and fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. The other four being: testifying that there is no god except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, performing prayers 5 times a day, paying the Zakah (a certain sum paid by capable Muslims to help sustain the poor), making the pilgrimage to the Sacred House in Mecca, Saudi Arabia (Hajj). The name “Ramadan” had been the name of the ninth month in Arabian culture long before the arrival of Islam; the word itself derived from an Arabic root rmḍ, as in words like “ramiḍa” or “ar-ramaḍ” denoting intense heat, scorched ground and shortness of rations. Ramadan ends with the holiday of Id al-Fitr, a three-day “Feast of Fast Breaking.”During this time, gifts are exchanged, large meals consumed, and the company of family and friends is enjoyed.

♫ Nasheed – “This Quran”, by Ahmed Bukhater:
Nasheed is Islamic vocal music that is either sung a cappella or accompanied by percussion instruments such as the daff. In general, true Islamic anasheed (plural of Nasheed) do not contain lamellaphone instruments, string instruments, or wind and brass instruments, although digital remastering — either to mimic percussion instruments or to create overtones — is permitted.

Text:
It’s the book of Allah
Nothing except it edifies us
Let us follow it
It’s the greatest miracle of Allah
It tells us about the secret of universe
All mighty Allah revealed it
And his prophet is our teacher
Let us follow its rules
