Managing IT costs in a downturn: 4 suggestions on how to generate revenue growth that exceed traditional cost-cutting
Many companies have built up complex application environments with ongoing support requirements and, unfortunately, companies rarely reach internal agreements on business priorities for information technology. Still, some companies nowadays have to improve their cash positions merely as a survival technique. Selling non-current assets, including IT, is a solution that companies needing to generate cash have already started to take.

Companies not yet confronting with critical cash generation strategies could use their current IT status to increase revenues and reduce operational costs. For instance, they can use data more effectively and optimize processes through technology. IT could improve supply chain management by enhancing logistics and inventory management. Similarly, better data can sharpen insights into customer segments, pinpointing opportunities to change prices or focus sales efforts.

Here are some considerations while planning IT cost cutting:

Re: Managing IT costs in a downturn: 4 suggestions on how to generate revenue growth that exceed traditional cost-cutting
This is a great article! Thanks for posting this.

I've had many interesting dialogs with different people in different industries all talking about cost cutting in these economic times. Most of them were involved in IT for their company. Many companies needed to cut down on IT projects, budgets etc, however, they could still maximize revenue growth by adapting to new innovative technologies and solutions that were offered by offshore, nearshore companies.

I understand that not too many people are comfortable with outsourcing parts or all of their IT projects but those that have already done so, have been pleased with the results. As long as the offshore company and the EU company has the right fit.

Companies that can offer solutions using innovative technologies, automation and fully supported and fully managed services, may be able to help SME's and larger enterprises survive 2009 and beyond. Particularly, with data driven technologies, making it easier for companies to access data, manage it and ensure its security.

Cutting IT costs doesn't mean you have to lower your standards and expect a slower rate of revenue growth. It all depends on partnering with the right business solution company that's innovative, reliable and most of all, affordable.

Do you consult companies re: IT cost cutting? What do you offer as solutions?

    Cheers!
