  What can persuade you to hire Junior Ruby devs with significant PHP experience?

  Hi!
  
  I am writing to ask for your advice.
  
  Currently we have several software developers with 7+ years in PHP that have strong desire to switch to Ruby on Rails.
  
  They have passed a brainbench certification in Ruby on Rails with excellent results, but have only several months of experience in Ruby.
  
  Are there any possibilities to find Ruby project for them? What they should do to persuade a client that they will be good at Ruby?
  
  Could free piloting project may be a solution?
  
  Are there any other things they can do to prove their capability to fulfill Ruby projects?
  
  What do you think?

  At first don't mix up Ruby and Ruby On Rails.
  Significant PHP experience can show that a person is familiar with a web development (web servers, HTTP/REST, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.).
  
  From the other side being a good Ruby developer require some time to write a good Ruby code. Having switched from another language/platform a developer continues to write code in an old (Java/PHP/whatever) way at the beginning.
  
  Free piloting project is a good solution. But be careful not to fail and get a first negative feedback. I would not recommend this without having an experienced RoR developer in a team.
  
  Public activity works ok now to persuade hiring such guys. E.g. blog posts, conference talks, activity on GitHub (creating own products - apps, gems; fixing bugs in other open source software), creating your free and open source product (where clients can see the code quality).

  Good Ruby-ON-RAILS Developers should have worked with other MVC Web-Frameworks.
  Experience with such PHP Frameworks (Zend Framework, CakePHP etc.) should be a good reference.
