    Trying to understand Google Analytics
For years, I have been using Urchin stats as a way to monitor the activity on my websites. It’s a log-based approach, so it has its limitations, but for my needs it was sufficient. This said, the product does not seem to be further developed, so I was wondering whether Google Analytics might be a suitable alternative.

So, a couple of days ago, I installed the code on all the pages of one of my websites and waited for the results. Unfortunately, the differences between the GA results and Urchin are HUGE. There are some likely culprits such as XML- and PDF-pages and blocking Javascript, but this can only explain part of the difference. I already searched the Google documentation, but this does not seem to be the greatest source of wisdom either.

So, can anyone point me to a good article that can make me understand where the differences between the two approaches hide?
