Job Description
• Assist the DPA - Monitoring, enforcing, maintaining and further developing the Safety Management System (SMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Executing Internal Audits to verify the suitability and effectiveness of the SMS / EMS and to report results to DPA.
• Informing the DPA on the ongoing status, recommendations and requests for resources associated with safety and environment protection activities.
• Assist the DPA to ensuring a safe working environment with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
• Assist the DPA in assessing and evaluating safety and environmental risks.
• Examining all the records related to the SMS / EMS and making inquiries, as needed for the duties.
• For assigned vessels :
- to ensure the validity of Safety Management Certificates and International Ship Security Certificate
- to ensure that corrective and preventive actions are carried out in time,
- to follow up incident reports (including investigation and analysis) and to inform the respective personnel (e.g. Superintendent) and Designated Person,
- to maintain the database for incident reporting,
• Participate in worldwide officer seminars;
• Participate in the assessment / evaluation of crew and officers in respect to ISM and ISO 14001 requirements.
• Carry out briefings / debriefings in respect of ISM and ISO 14001 requirements.
• Training of personnel (ship and shore) in regards to ISM, ISO 14001 and new regulations as requested.
• Liaise with external parties, e.g. Flag State and Class Society, as requested.
Qualifications
• Detailed knowledge of the applicable codes, guidelines and standards, especially the ISM Code, ISO 14000 and GbV
• Conversance with the SMS / EMS
• Conversance with audit practices
• Large-scale knowledge of the working language(s) on board
• Professional seaman or adequate experience in marine related environment
