Malika Mounari(not a XING member)the port activity in Algeria
Hello,
I never could take part in the forum on this interesting group, because the exchanges are in German or English, the idea to me today had translated myself into English and had just taken part in the forum by this modest articles on the ports in Algeria.
That my friends excuse me if my English is not correct.
The near total of the foreign trade of Algeria passes by the harbor infrastructures, thus the provisioning of the nation depends on maritime sector at the level of 96%. The Algerian State gave a great importance to develop the infrastructures and the port activity which includes all the activities which are related to the reception of the ships: their loading, their unloading and the storage of the goods, etc
The Algerian harbor system known in its evolution and development several phases and modes of organizations and administration of its activities very while pursuing a liberal policy which limits to the State its interventions in the field and encourages the private one to take the initiative.
If the ports played a very important part in the saving in colonial extraversion, their importance remains in the orientation of Algerian space towards the sea. However, a new hierarchy was established.
For these three last decades, the ports have had to adapt to true changes which took on three aspects: increase in the size of the ships, appearance of the use of the loads, and specialization. In glance in the actual position of the infrastructures of the Algerian ports, it appears obvious to classify them in the category of the traditional ports.
As for the criterion related to the traffic, it highlights a specialization by port. Nevertheless, such a classification does not reflect exactly the economic activity of each port because the added-value with the goods at the court of are passage in the port, varies according to the nature of the goods and the operations which are related for him. The added-value for the handling of a ton of oil is much weaker than that relative to a ton of various goods.

By using this criterion, the typology of the Algerian ports arises as follows:
• Eight ports has prevalence of general goods traffic, it acts: Algiers, Dellys, Oran, Annaba, Mostaganem, Djen-Djen, Ténès and Ghazaouet.
• Three mixed ports: Bejaia, Arzew and Skikda (old port).
• Two ports specialized in hydrocarbons: Bethioua and Skikda (new port)
