    The Open Sim Situation is not only about money. If you visit an Open Sim that is being abused you will experience terrible performance where your avatar lags so bad it's hard to move at all, and everything takes many minutes to rez into view. The mistake Linden Labs made a while ago was increasing the allowable primitives on the open sims, which then encouraged many sim owners to carry out normal uses on the Open Sims which were not meant to be used for much more than open oceans and meadows.

    This abuse of the Open Sims creates an overload on the CPUs that process several sims together. It also gives users a terrible experience and creates a bad first impression of the Second Life experience. It may not be fair to those who are not abusing or misusing the open sims to raise the price, I agree. The situation could also be addressed by lowering the number of primitives down to 1,500 on an open sim. That solution would also irritate many people, I'm sure, but it could solve the problem. Its not just about money.

    Sorry, aber der Unternehmer der mir meine Insel "mietet" wird mein Geld jetzt leider verlieren müssen.

    ja es wird teurer werden, man wird jetzt vielleicht nimmer ne insel mieten sonden ne bucht :-)
    und ja auch ich kenne leute die schon ihre eigene insel abgestossen haben.
    die chance sehe ich darin, dass jetzt leute die etwas aufziehen wollen nicht einfach nur kopieren können und die welt interessanter machen.


    zc: Wer wird 66% mehr Tier für die genau gleicher Leistung zahlen?? Wer hier mich dazu Überreden kann ist ein Meisterverkaufsperson und soll sich bei uns in der Firma bitte bewerben.

    German or English? uhm... I'll try and go for english...

    The problem with the OS is indeed the abuse of them. When they raised the prim-limit, they raised the number of possible scripts running as well. I had a customer calling me because of bad performance of one of my products. Well, it turned out, he was on an OS, had birds, dogs, and whatever running around and was about to build a club there... And he wasn't the only one doing stuff like that with OSs. But they were never intended for this kind of use and the TOS clearly state that. But, who reads them? All that people saw were low prices and a limited number of prims. But, hey, I don't need 10'000 Prims to build a club - I just call it a beach party! So all of a sudden LL is confronted with slow performance on OSs, complaining users (why does my 5 prim obejct with 20 running script not work? it only has 5 prims!) and lagging servers. This is like someone renting a 2 bedroom flat (limited prims! :) and then install so much technical equipment in there, that there's no electricity left for the other tenants. What do you think would the landlord do?

    So, I can clearly see why LL is taking this step. And I think it's a fair move.
