    It's time to say 'Hello'
Hi everyone, I am new to this group but not new to SL. So I will introduce myself...

I did my first noobish steps in SL in late 2005, my avie's name is Jabba Gruppman - as I played SWG (Star Wars Galaxies) for some time before. After they SOE introduced the CU (Combat Upgrade) many, many players left SWG - including me. I like playing MMORPG, but SWG did a big step in the direction of becoming a Shoot-em-up game which is not my primary objective :) Shortly after having realized what SL is all about I tried to change my avie name 'Jabba', cancelled this account, got info from LL that it is not possible to open more that the already taken number of accounts per household, so I reactivated my 'Jabba Gruppman' again - and that is why I really have items in my inventory that were aquired even *before* my avie was born officially :) And yes, many accounts per household... my wife is also active in SL. And no, she is not my current partner in SL - we are happy in RL and we are happy to be roleplayers :)

In RL I am a freelancer in IT business, currently working for a large company in mobile business in my home town Berlin. Currently I am not very technically involved, my current job is very high-level abstract in business management so I take the opportunity to script and make very 'technical' things in my SL time. With a couple of inworld friends we run the Annuna group which is a loose collection of inviduals being active with roleplay, building, designing, partying and more. I am going to buy our first SL sim in March now - hopefully :) Until then you can meet us nearly every evening starting 21:00 MET (12 pm SLT) at the region "Velvet Underground" which is a Low-Prim region I currently rented.

For business I run a successful audio streaming store. I offer Shoutcast and Icecast2 stream. A good friend of mine (also a RL friend) is doing some video work - clips from our latest parties and stuff. So we are going to establish a video streaming store in the near future, too. I did some coaching work in RL before, so I may say that I am quite experienced in how to establish a business in both worlds RL and SL, although my SL business is mainly for fun only - it started to eat up so much time so I started to concentrate on other things in SL as I always try to have a proper balance between professional work and all the fun aspects of Second Life. My experience there always is a certain point in your Second Life where you have to decide how to act further: Doing more business in SL means always less time for the fancy 'gaming' aspects of this environment.

For the gaming aspects of Second Life our current region "Velvet Underground" is DCS2 activated which means that we can wear scripted attachements which allow us to include weaponry in roleplay causing someones 'life counter' being decreased when being shot. Our Annuna group is a so-called Neko group. We live in a quite run-down urban environment at our place and we mainly behave like 'cat people'.

In my opinion Second Life offers the very first environment where people work and play together. Some people have different avies for work and for gaming. For me this is a bit like a test: I do not seperate my work from my game environment in SL. I even try to include my work in my gaming experience. For me it's interesting to hear what people being very active in the commercial side of SL honestly think about gaming in SL. Can one combine successfully both aspects of Second Life? Isn't it exactly the same question what we have to answer for ourselves in RL too? Is there really a difference between SL and RL in spite of being 'only' a virtual projection of our lifes. What can we do with the additional freedom?

Ok, what else: After getting knowledge of the OpenSIM project I also installed some sort of 'small' private grid on two linux machines for testing purposes and I am also using libsecondlife for realizing automatic tasks such as group invites as an example.

Why I am in this group?

    Several objectives:
    - Getting in touch with others who are trying to live a halfways 'balanced' second life between work and fun time
    - Learning from others who did their way in SL
    - Looking for partnerships / cooperations / project work / customers
    - Meeting people from SL who live in my RL region (Berlin and near to) for occasional RL meetings

    See you inworld?

LIfe meets Real Life"-Lesung.
