Apple, Google and Microsoft fighting for the leadership in the mobile Internet and applications market space
Today I read in the newspaper that Steve Ballmer wants to reinvent Microsofts strategy. This is due to the tremendous success Apple has with the iPhone, launched in 2007. I found the exact numbers on the Wikipedia here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File%3AIPhone_sales_per_quarter...). But Apple also just launched the iPad and it is sold out since it was launched a few months ago.
Larry Page, Cofounder of Google says that Apple goes far behind Google regarding the mobile Internet as Google is working since 2002 on the mobile Operating system Android and launched the first Google phone in 2008. But the truth is that Apple went again market faster than its competitors not only with an operating system and a mobile phone or a tablet PC but also together with attractive and useful mobile applications. This is what makes the real difference and Apple's strategy much more powerful. The App Store concept using iTunes for the distribution of any application that makes every iPhone and iPad owner a registered Apple client with Credit Card information means 40 million new Apple customers since 2007. Not bad from a business perspective, no?
Even if Apple is ahead now the problem is that the market of mobile phones and tablet PCs is so huge that they cannot deliver enough hardware so there is an opportunity for both Google, Microsoft and even more players.
If you are not an owner of an iPhone or iPad you may think I am crazy but I am sure that as soon as you have experienced it, you will want one. Look, I am writing this article on my iPad and I can promise you all that this is an amazing tool for both business and entertainment. I gave it to my 2 year old daughter and in a few minutes she was able to navigate as she only needs her little fingers to do this. Can you imagine what this means for old people that are unable to manage a mouse? Internet and therewith Social Networks will be in the hands of people that until now could simply not handle the technology. Now, while I am writing this sitting on my couch I can just hand the article over to my wife tok ask her to read it over and to tell me what she thinks. The only problem is that she felt asleep already;)
It's possible to share this thing like a piece of paper. This is all good news for Social Networks and people like you that want to uses them to reach out to your customers, employees, providers, shareholders and other groups of interest.
