Madrid (Spain), September 9th, 2008
Sixjumps announces the development of a plug-in for Facebook Connect to be able to take your Facebook friend's profiles with to your blog.
"We from sixjumps would like to add our five cents to the Web based Social Media evolution developing a plugin for Wordpress that allows direct integration of blogs developed with Wordpress and facebook using Facebook Connect. This is an easy and quick way to generate a user community around our personal brand/blog integrating the powerful tools and functionalities facebook is offering today.
This plugin allows:
1. Access the blog (login) with your Facebook credentials where facebook validates the username without asking for the password necessary to access the blog/website.
2. The user does not need to register in the blog because thanks to the plugin the user can utilize his complete profile information he already edited in Facebook. This is tremendously useful as the user does not have to register and create profiles over and over again! The blog can now utilize the shared user profile information for customization and statistics in our Wordpress Blog. The plugin creates a Wordpress Blog user with the exact same facebook profile information which then could be edited by the user if he likes so.
3. It is possible to obtain your friends/contacts from facebook and to generate invitations to join our Blog/Site. One way of promoting the site using the so powerful and marvellous word-of-mouth.
4. You additionally can access to a list of existing members of the blog/site.
5. The users activity in the blog/site such as posts can be sent to Facebooks mini-feed of the users profile and is then visible in facebook in his lifestream.
6. You can show your last visits to the blog including the users photo that have accessed the page.
There are rumours that facebook itself is working on a similar plugin for Wordpress with the objective to extend the use of Facebook Connect and make it finally a success between the huge blogger community out there on the Internet. Others have already started with their own developments such as sixjumps did.
Sixjumps will opensource the plug-in code (GPL) as soon as Facebook finally opens up Facebook Connect. Meanwhile Facebook Connect can only be used by developers.
We at Sixjumps believe that Facebook Connect is a good alternative for Social Applications Development turning around the common integration approach with the Social Networks Applications. Instead of plugging the application inside the Social Network Services Platform (Facebook, MySpace, Hi5, etc.) we enable that the Web application (blog/site/portal/community) can use some or all of the services, contents and functionalities of these Social Network Services Platforms."

This really is a great advance and shows Facebook in a good light if they do approve it. Currently I use friend feed
http://www.friendfeed.com with face book which is really good to update friends. Only problem is that I than end up with double information as the status is updated by twitter. Feel free to check out my face book professional profile to see how things are done.

Hi Cecilia,
In short to build your own site is the best. You can do this number of ways. By having a company /personal blog or by hosting a community in your particular expertise.
For community software you can use Drupal, Ning For example take a look here

For a personal blog I use word press. example here
Http://whooah.biz
outside that I use linkedin - no real reason other than that most of my colleagues use it too. The other main one is Twitter. It depends what your Goals are as to what is the best solution. The main ones tend to link together, but achieve different individual goals. what is your goal?
