Dr. Antonio Fradella Group moderatorThe company name is only visible to registered members.Re^2: Why did you join this group and did you find what you were looking for?
Thank you Andreas for your question. I share most of your points expressed in the NL.
As far as I’m concerned I joined because I have always been attracted by marketing topics, I was looking for some ideas to work on and I was (and still am I) interested in skilled profiles to involve in future possible projects in synergy with my expertise.
My poor command of English, the limited time to follow all groups I’m interested in, the moderation/co-moderation of other groups (time consuming activity) and, last but not least, my daily work that needs to be done, are the main reasons why I didn’t follow your group that much.
Did I find what I was looking for? Well, on these basis it would have been a miracle!
Why didn’t I leave the group? Well in some cases I did it, to “give room” (Xing restricts to 100 the number of groups subscriptions) to other groups I wanted to check (impossible if not a member), but I didn’t leave your group because it still interests me and I think it will be possible to involve some members in some ideas I am working on.
As far as now those are my personal motivations. Let me expose my opinion in general based on my two years networking experience.
In my opinion a large majority of networks members has misunderstood the finality and usage of a social / business network: they use it as the nth profile/cv database or a directory on line…. They join, fill in the profile form (with very scarce info often, indeed) and “wait”…. As a result of this passive presence, they don’t find what they look for (a job, a customer, a supplier, a partner, an opportunity, an idea) because they aren’t showing them up actually! They wait to be noticed…..
On a social / business network you gain visibility by participating in discussions, opening new threads, posting interesting topics, answering others’ posts….. people read them and evaluate your competence… only in this way you can hope to be noticed and possibly contacted for a business. On the contrary, as there are hundreds people with your same skills, why the hell should a person contact just you???? You have the same chances as if you were on a paper district directory …
I had a look at many Xing members’ profiles and realized that many people fill it wrongly. A common mistake is the usage of “haves” and “wants” without keywords (correct) but with complex and long dissertation, self introduction and, in many cases, a whole résumé.
What is the outcome of the two above mentioned mistakes? That they are not “visible” in the network and that, even in case someone is desperately looking for a specific profile, he will never succeed in finding it because the internal research engine efficiency is affected by this mistake.
So, in the very end, a lot of people don't find what they (think) they're looking for and after a while, unsatisfied, leave (or simply don’t follow) groups and delete their accounts in the network.
I think I wrote even too much by so far.
I thank you for your patience and efforts in trying to get what I mean……
Regards,
AF

Hello Amit,
thank you for beeing so sincere.
Look, this group is free and from my perspective a group in a public social network is always about many people investing a little amount of time sharing something valuable to the group that should not impact too much in terms of time investment. Sharing is not about a few guys creating value for many guys to take that knowledge away. If someone creates value for many people and invests a considerable amount of time he usually sets up a business and sells this to his customers because otherwise he will have a serious problem: How will he afford his life?
So if you create a group to drive traffic to your business it is another story as you get paid to spend your time running the group. That is not the case of this group.
Look, from a simple look at the statistics of this group I can tell you:
40 out of 105 articles have been written by myself and only 65 by other group members which means roughly 0,2 articles per member.
What should we do?
People out there that know - and I am sure there are many - should also share some experience and not be "Read only" members.
Best regards,
Andreas

This is a very interesting post Antonio,
Thank you very much!
So you basically don' drop your memberhsip to keep sort of an Expert Database regarding Marketing in Social Networks. It's not the content, it's the people that are maybe useful for you in the future.
So what do you think would happen if I'd ask if I should close down the group? Would there be a reaction "No please - I will loose these valuable contacts?"
Don't you think that there are other groups that serve as good or even better for this purpose?
Thank you again and best regards,
Andreas

Dr. Antonio Fradella Group moderatorThe company name is only visible to registered members.Re^4: Why did you join this group and did you find what you were looking for?
So you basically don' drop your memberhsip to keep sort of an Expert Database regarding Marketing in Social Networks. My poor command of English shall be even worse than I thought. I wrote an Essay more than a post and started saying "I have always been attracted by marketing topics..."
It's not the content, it's the people that are maybe useful for you in the future. Yes, you're right. Content may be of my personal interest, but Marketing is not my profession and it will never be as I have over 13 years experience in else I would never throw away. I am very interested in professional profiles, with whom I can interact and possibly establish a common business. That's why I am in a business Network: to get in touch with other professional profiles. What's wrong with it?
So what do you think would happen if I'd ask if I should close down the group? Would there be a reaction "No please - I will loose these valuable contacts?" Well, I would think "what a pity", but it would be your decision and, as we are not long time contacts and have at present no confidence at all, I wouldn't say anything. I wouldn't get desperate as well because I see a lot of people here who can start a new group on this topic with the same success.
Loose valuable contacts? Not really.... All of us are members in several groups in addition to this one.... we can always meet somewhere else.
Don't you think that there are other groups that serve as good or even better for this purpose? No, I don't. Do you think so, indeed? Anyway, should I change my mind it won't be difficoult to join them...
Thank you again and best regards, Thank you Andreas. But, is it my impression or did you get disturbed by my post? I hope to be wrong because I really don't figure out why you should feel so.
Andreas Antonio
