  As long as Yahoo, Google, MSN and AOL do not agree there will be no Effective spam solutions - or is there?

  There is no need for the large companies to decide on certain email standards to have effective spam solutions. Several specialized antispam companies exist, processing large volumes of email allowing them to block spam messages while using a lot of real-time data to ensure effective filtering. Nowadays it is hard for a single company to maintain their own spam solution because of the amount of research and analysis needed. Outsourcing the spam problem to an external company ensures happy employees and improved business results.
