    NGN/IMS Operations Best Practices
    Dear all,

I am interested in sharing ideas, concepts and best practices for operating systems & services in an NGN environment, in particular IMS and applications.

In comparison to operating traditional stove-pipe style solutions, the NGN/IMS architecture provides a lot of new options to set up and run services differently.
However, most of the talk is about features. But what are the concepts to implement and run services in an all-IP environment?
I believe, we need to look at concepts in the IT space, probably those that are applicable for high-available and high-performance industry sectors, such as banking or trading.

If you follow the discussion about NGN, I think it becomes obvious that transport and service stratums differentiate quite significantly, and so must the operations concepts.
For the service operations end, I would expect that it turns into a Datacenter setup, taking advantage of virtualization and further automation capabilities in the datacenter.
As services will be implemented in software only, it must be possible to set up standardized hardware and middleware and run the software services on top of that layer. This would mean in turn, that redundancy, scaling, etc could be automatically handled by the underlying middleware and virtualisation layer and thus taking away the need for specifically setting up services and hardware, as well as expanding capacity.

Regarding supportactivities, traditional capabilities would also need to change as monitoring and incident investigation now required a very detailed insight into the software and configured flows between software. This is hardly available for any discrete monitoring method.

I would be very interested in your views and experience in this field.

    Kind regards

could you introduce some applications about IMS in T-mobile?
in china , cmcc has test the IMS solution, such as PTX, and streaming service. But current there have been a lot of separately applications. what will the carriers do in the NGN time?

    Re^2: NGN/IMS Operations Best Practices
Not sure if I have understood the question correctly.
Building up experience in setting up and operating IMS is certainly on the agenda for most operators.
As IMS based services promise to deliver services at lower cost and faster time to market the hope is to implement multimedia services in an NGN environemnt rather than setting upt today´s stove-piped solutions.

However, I have not come across a real compelling approach to model and orchestrate services in a layered architecture, and operations strategies and solutions.
I would expect to differentiate between transport stratum and application stratum, with OSS and operational processes covering both areas.
While the transport stratum might use well established concepts, I expect the application stratum to see some more significant changes, such as high-performance and harmonised data center operations of layered components.
This would allow to use concepts such as autonomuous computing, advanced virtualization capabilities, etc

Does anyone have experince or ideas in this area?

Of course in English, too... ;-)

    With regards
