Orange Romania: Q1 revenues down 6.3%
Orange Romania reported revenues of €222m in Q1 2011, 6.3% less than in Q1 2010. It was the operator’s ninth consecutive quarter with a year on year fall in revenues in the country. No information was provided regarding profits. Meanwhile, France Telecom, Orange’s owner, is planning to review the growth potential and consolidation opportunities of its smaller European operations, including Orange Romania.

The continued fall in revenues in the first three months of 2011 was due to the difficult economic situation in Romania, exacerbated by inflation, according to Thierry Millet, Orange Romania’s CEO. He added that the crisis left its mark on consumer spending habits and even if the economic environment improves, demand will grow at a much slower rate. That, combined with aggressive competition on the telecoms market, means revenues will continue to erode in the coming quarters.
