    Dear Toastmasters International,

I'm curious to get to know this group, its members and hopefully make some stimulating contributions myself.

I'm a 'New Berliner', living in Berlin since 2006 and very much at home in Germany's capital.

As a classical pianist/composer and betimes translator (German-->English) there is certainly no shortage of opportunities for (largely) gainful employ.

To give you alittle context on myself, I was born in La Jolla, California (USA) and pretty much divided my growing up between Southern California and Toronto, Canada. I've been pianizing since 7 and along the way picking up languages (French, German, Norwegian, some Icelandic). I've resided in Germany since 1990, including piano performance studies (Hochschule für Musik, Detmold, Abt. Münster) and also spent a half year in Paris in '88, private study with the French composer Jean Langlais.

My reading covers a broad range of topics (science, history (of ideas), architecture, Agatha Christie detective stories, too, I admit) and keeps my creative fires well stoked.

I'm currently working on new recordings (Chopin to Schönberg to Thorson) to place on my revamped website (http://www.thorson.de) - as yet somewhat rudimentary.

Feel free to contact me, and I'm looking forward to perhaps doing some actual public speaking. I did manage to win a school-wide speech contest when I was in grade 5 (on George Frederick Handel).

    Chipper cheers from Berlin,

    Timothy Thorson
