Hi and "Yohimbé t' ya" to all members of the XING group "TOASTMASTER"!
Thank you for having the chance to be a member of this group.
Years ago I joined the TOASTMASTERS section in Cologne and actually I watch the section of my honorable friend John K. in Bonn growing.
But I am not a good speaker, I, Thomas, TOM, am a tolerably good long distance runner. And I am a business owner and a family man.
What is "long distance" for a runner like me? A Marathon?
Maybe, there long distances are starting. And they go up to 240 kilometers nonstop.
If you search the runner in me you can find me in web communities like "Steppenhahn" (
http://www.steppenhahn.de/steppenhuhn1248/) and "DUV - Deutsche Ultramarathon Vereinigung" (
http://statistik.d-u-v.org/getresultperson.php?runner=497), my nick is always Tom Wingo.
Maybe you can guess why I chose that nick name ...?
Naturally my favourite thing is being a business owner (
http://www.heidifoto.com). Since I decided in 1988 to give up being an employee to battle against the cold and hard wind of being self-employed I did some good and some lesser good decisions. But which decision I made I designed my life by myself.
And this is what is fascinating in being entrepreneur.
My "second life" is running ...
In the meantime I have finished 86 "Marathons and longer" (
http://www.heidifoto.com/Marathon/100.html) but most of them were "longer", Ultra-Marathons up to 177,520 km (DLV Challenge 24-hours-race in Delmenhorst, June 2009).
My highlight was the "UTMB" (Ultra Trail de Mont Blanc), 166 Kilometers around the Mont Blanc and that while climbing 9.400 meters in height. I needed 41:53:22 hours for that race, running through two dark and cold nights.
And my ambitious plan for the year 2010 foresees that I will do races like the "Mt. Everest stairs marathon" in Radebeul and the 7-day desert run "Marathon des Sables" in April 2010. But the biggest goals are the mega distances of the year 2010, the 230 Kilometers of the TorTOUR de Ruhr (
http://www.tortourderuhr.de) and the 240 Kilometers with 18.000 positiv meters in height of the PTL ("La Petite Trotte à Léon") all around the Mont Blanc again, but longer, higher, harder and colder than the UTMB.
Any questions? Cool! Ask me ...
But I am a experienced husband (married for nealy 24 years now) and a tender father of my grown-up children Milena Tioga (nearly 18 years old) and Pascal Arni (16 years old and an enthusiastic triathlon athlete).
I am looking forward to find new friends here ...

PS: "Yohimbé t' ya!" What does that mean? Besides the literal translation it is a shout of encouragement coming from Africa. And "Mr. Mouse", the promoter of the legendary TOUGH GUY race (
http://www.toughguy.co.uk/) uses that shout to push you beyond your limits ...
