EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS
FOR TOASTMASTERS YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Think for a moment: What is the age structure of your Club? What are your main target groups?
And recall for a moment the long-term approaches that some businesses have in recruiting new customers. Savings banks in Germany, for instance, run 'Knax-Clubs' to win pre-schoolers' hearts as early as possible to win them over as long-term customers when they have grown up.
This is where you should start implementing Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program, which as they say in a leaflet (No. 801) "helps young people develop their communication and leadership skills so that they may become tomorrow's leaders in business, industry, and the community."
The Youth Leadership Program that Toastmasters International offer presents eight sessions conducted as meetings, working from a handbook. The participants select officers who preside over the meetings. The remaining class members give and evaluate speeches, impromptu and prepared ones. There are a coordinator and an assistant coordinator who instruct and moderate.
Hedgehog Toastmasters have begun presenting the Program to 17 to 19-year-olds at the local 'Gymnasium' and vocational schools. We are starting the Program in late-October this year and at the end of the eight sessions we are going to offer a Toastmasters Youth Club to give the graduates the opportunity to carry on: to strengthen their speaking and meeting skills. We would also like to see them participating in Youth contests between Youth Clubs in the District. This means that we are inviting other Clubs in the District to start their Youth Programs. How do you feel about that?
