Proposal on investment in return for Iraqi oil
Turkish state minister for foreign trade reiterated a proposal to make Turkish investments in Iraq in return for Iraqi oil.

"I would like to re-state our proposal: Iraq can give Turkiye oil in exchange for the financing needed for Turkish investments here," Zafer Caglayan told a business forum in the Iraqi city of Basra. Caglayan said their main goal was to bring more investments into Iraq instead of selling more goods to the country.

"There are eighty businessmen accompanying us in our visit here and they are willing to make investments in construction, tourism, food and service sectors," Caglayan said, adding that Turkiye placed special importance on its trade with Iraq.

Re: Proposal on investment in return for Iraqi oil
The Turkish foreign minister said on Friday that the Turks and Iraqis would shape up the future together. Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Turks and Iraqis had lived together for centuries.

"They will also shape up their future together," Davutoglu told a joint press conference with Iraqi Minister of Trade Safaa al-Deen al-Safi and Governor Abboud Cltag Mayah of the Iraqi city of Basra.

Turkiye's State Minister Zafer Caglayan is accompanying Davutoglu during the visit. Davutoglu and Caglayan are the first foreign minister and state minister for foreign trade from a foreign country visiting this Iraqi city.

Davutoglu said Turkiye considered Iraq's welfare and peace as its own.

The foreign minister said Turkiye and Iraq signed 48 agreements in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad two weeks ago, and Caglayan and he were visiting several Iraqi cities including Basra, Irbil and Mosul together with businessmen and journalists to see how the signed agreements could be implemented.

Davutoglu said he would open Turkiye's Consulate General in Basra later in the day.

The foreign minister saw Iraq's future bright, and said hard days would pass.

"Turkish-Iraqi cooperation will change the fate of the entire region in a positive way," Davutoglu also said.

Also, Iraqi Minister of Trade al-Safi said Turkish-Iraqi relations would further improve with this historic visit.

Governor Mayah said Iraq, particularly Basra, was a center of attraction for foreign investors, and Iraqis and Turks should give hand-in-hand and eradicate terrorism.

Re^2: Turkiye's consulate-general in the Iraqi city of Mosul opens
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan formally inaugurated Turkiye's consulate-general in the Iraqi city of Mosul, third stop of their tour to Iraq. The consulate-general has been active since 2006 but formal inauguration ceremony was held on Saturday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Caglayan said that Turkiye would always stand by Iraqi people with its politicians and businessmen. "Today, we, as children of Ottomans, are here to show interest to development of Mosul just as our ancestors showed centuries ago," Caglayan said.

Caglayan stated that Turkiye wanted to take an important role in the reconstruction of Mosul.

On Friday, Davutoglu and Caglayan visited Iraq's Irbil and Basra. Turkish ministers opened another consulate in Irbil at their visit.
