Hello there,
I am interested in starting voiceover work, and wondered "how" ! I would be grateful for any suggestions,

- ps, also interested to improve my German, perhaps using podcasts. Is there a program I could follow, or do I jst search out stuff on a hit and miss basis ?

Hi.
When talent agencies offer a new voiceover talent to their clients their first question is how the voiceover artist sounds like. And the office co-ordinator quickly sends them a voiceover sample to show how the capabilities of the talent offered.
If you would like to become a voiceover artist, you may want to create your demo reel first. Clients/producers are usually not interested in seeing a resume - they only care about what they hear. Read more on this here:

Once you have your voiceover sample(s) send them to as many talent agencies/production houses as possible. Some voiceover artists send CDs while others compress the broadcast quality audio into MP3 files and submit/upload them to their prospects.
