Hi,
living in one of the most expensive countries in the world reflects on all aspects of life, including wine prices. With a wonderful exception; the internationally acclaimed wines are reasonable priced. The reason is that Vinmonopolet (The Wine Monopoly) in fact is Europe`s biggest buyer and that they always buys a certain quantity of decent wines for storage. When they hit the market a few years later the Monopoly is setting the price of the wine and a cost plus basis. As the number of wine lovers in this country has risen quite steeply during the last 8-10 years, you will find people queing overnight in order to secure a case of Cheval Blanc 1982 for a sixth of the actual market value.
I have been chairing a wine importing company, concentrating on France, Italy and Spain for the last 9 years, and would like to end this prelude by promoting one of my absolute favourites:
Chateau Rajas, a small, but excellent producer from Chateaunef du Pape.
All the best
