It is a possibility to drink red wine with fish or seafood in general. It is prefered for the red wine to be a light to medium body wine with grape varieties such as Pinot Noir or Gamay. The trick is to squeeze a little bit of a lemon on the seafood to carry the tannins in the red wine.
However, my preference is to drink white wine with seafood which makes it more enjoyable especially with very fine tasting white fish.

Dear Stefan,
Often customers ask me what is the best wine to buy? My answer is "The best wine for you is the wine that you like". I really believe in the peoples' palate, however, it is very enjoyable to have the right wine with the right food, it make the meal more enjoyable, it is like a trip to heaven and back.
Talking about affordability, yes I agree. Wine has to be affordable to the consumer, but you can always find an affordable red wine as well as an affordable white wine. I also like to pear the wine with the sauce of the dish served, again it makes the meal more enjoyable.
Thank you for your comment and I am looking forward for more.

Hi Mrs. Riadi,
First of all I must confess that I am still new to the unending depths of wine knowledge, although I used to live in one of the best wine regions of the world, Burgenland, Austria.
I, too, think its not that important which kind of meat you are going to have for dinner or lunch, but which wine serves your individual taste best.

Roman

Dear all,
very interesting comments in this thread, let me add my own view
1-something you all know : wine is a subjective matter
2-red can go well on seafood especially light reds
3-pairing wine and food is a cultural thing..a very french thing ..mostly people around the world drink their wine regardless of food
4-which brings me to number 4: they are loosing the pleasure of opening 3-4-5 bottles to see which one fits the best :o)
boris
ps: the coteaux du layon tasting , was it during a slow food event or a sappros event? ( (
