Attica Hoteliers Association warned of declining tourist activity in the region of up to 6 percent, in terms of both bookings and prices on May 15. According to the association, the messages coming so far from all tourist markets are discouraging.
The tourist inflow from the United States is expected to drop by as much as 30 percent, while markets such as Germany, Britain and France were also following a downward course. A likely increase is expected from certain unpredictable markets whose tourist behavior is not affected by economic factors such as Russia and Bulgaria.

HI Monika,
Greece is on course for a disappointing tourist season with regard to US scenerio (a dropping dollar), But, A busy international sports timetable this year, with the Olympic Games in Beijing and the world soccer cup in Austria and Switzerland, also coincides with the tourist season to Greece's disadvantage.
Tourism accounts for 23 percent of Greece's gross domestic product, which the government wants to increase to 35-40 percent in the next decade. The industry employs about 1200,000 people around the country.
a sharp increase in hotel prices
an expensive holiday destination
Govt. is unable to keep pace with inflation
forced to spend more every week for the same necessities
Cheers
