    Who should be on my team? Innovation is a team sport
    Hello Everyone,

    Despite the enduring myth of the lone genius, innovation does not take place in isolation. Truly productive invention requires the meeting of minds from myriad perspectives, even if the innovators themselves don't always realize it.

    Keith Sawyer, a researcher at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, calls this "group genius," and in his book of the same name he introduces a scientific method called interaction analysis to the study of creativity. Through studying verbal cues, body language and incremental adjustments during team innovation efforts, Sawyer shows that what we experience as a flash of insight has actually percolated in social interaction for quite some time.

    We, as members of the global community, have many issues that need to be addressed, and as the world has evolved it has become clear that some new paradigms are needed to resolve these issues. Will an Innovation Agenda and an Innovation team make a contribution in this direction? What do you think?

    Hyderabad is the focus of the project. A consortium of Indian and German Research Institutes, partners from the public and private sectors as well as NGOs has been formed.

    Among the project partners from Germany are for instance the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the Department of Cultural Geography from the University of Freiburg (CULT-GEO), PTV (Traffic Mobility Logistics) in Karlsruhe, NEXUS GmbH in Berlin and the Institute for Cooperative Sciences at the Humboldt University in Berlin (IfG).

    Partners from the Indian side are: the „Center for Economic and Social Sciences“ (CESS), the „Regional Center for Environment and Urban Studies“, the „Osmania University“ (RCEUS-OU), and the „International Crop Research Institue for Semi-Arid Tropics“ (ICRISAT) in Patan¬cheru (all from Hyderabad). Lead partner and project coordinator is the Division of Resource Economics at the Humboldt University of Berlin.

    ETNO, the European Telecommunications Network Operators' Association (http://www.etno.eu) and its 42 members from 34 countries have been working for many years on a range of policy issues associated with the information society, including the World Summit on Information Society process and Internet governance.

    ETNO and its members are fully committed to the IGF process and participate in both the preparatory open consultations and the IGF meetings. This document contributes to the discussions on Taking Stock of the Hyderabad meeting and the way forward, as well as to the discussions on the review of the IGF.

    The government of Japan will participate in the formation of Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad through academic, technical and financial collaboration.

    "This Indo-Japan collaboration will be one of the unique strengths of IIT-H. The institute will also leverage the local presence of a wide-range of research and development laboratories and companies, both government and private, in the region. In addition, we are exploring the potential of substantial technical collaboration and support from Japan," said M S Ananth, acting director of IIT-H.

    It starts with an innocent query such as ‘What is your good name?’ and proceeds to include words and phrases like ‘prepone’, ‘updation’ and ‘native place’. English customized to Indian culture has produced its own jargon which could often be puzzling to other English-speaking people. The frustration of an American with ‘English’ has given birth to a website that seeks to address the language blues.

    The website http://www.wordwala.com could help Indian students and professionals looking at honing their skills in English language to suit American standards, as also the American bosses in understanding their Indian subordinates better. It facilitates communication between the two cultures by translating words and phrases typical to India.

    Indian-American Sonal Shah, who formerly led the philanthropic arm of Google.com, has been appointed as the head of the new Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation in the Obama administration.

    "It's now official – Sonal Shah, former head of global development at Google.org, the search-engine company's philanthropic arm, is head of the new White House Office of Social Innovation", Shin Inouye, a White House spokesman, confirmed Shah's appointment.

    Members of President Obama's transition team had proposed creating an Office of Social Innovation to promote government efforts to help innovative non-profit groups and social entrepreneurs expand successful approaches to tackle pressing social problems.

    The UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) aims to improve strong educational links between India and the United Kingdom to ensure each other’s choice in education, particularly in the field of Information Technology, Derek Wyatt, Member of Parliament, UK, has said.

    UKIERI has created over 500 new Indo-UK higher education and school links including few schools in Hyderabad over the last two years. UKIERI was initiated as a five-year initiative to bring about a change in educational relations between the two countries.
