Hello Everyone,
With India aiming to increase its research and development expenditure in the coming years, the country is likely to emerge as the next global hub for innovation and join the club of developed nations, a study has said.
The country is expected to strengthen its position in the innovation space as it is targeting to increase its R&D spend to 2 per cent of the GDP by 2012 under the 11th Five-Year Plan, from less than one per cent, as per a study conducted by global research and analytics firm Evalueserve.
"The move will catapult India to the league of developed nations that spend 2.5 per cent of their GDP on R&D, on an average," the study titled 'R&D Ecosystem in India' by the British and Canadian High Commissions in India said.

Hello Everyone,
The goals of this 200+ page book were to develop concrete actions that strengthen India’s innovation environment, enhance productivity growth, and reduce poverty. Because innovation is a broad topic, this book covers a vast array of areas ranging from India’s broader economic and institutionalregime—with a priority on promoting stronger competition among enterprises to unleash innovation—to more specific areas, such as
• formal research and development (R&D) and intellectual property rights (IPR);
• foreign investment and technology transfer;
• grassroots innovation;
• metrology, standards, testing, and quality services;
• education and skills;
• telecommunications infrastructure and high-speed research networks; and
• early-stage technology development finance and venture capital.
The book also offers many recommendations.

Hello Everyone,
TBWA, part of Omnicom, the world’s largest ad agency holding group, has been known for applying its disruption theory to advertising. In India, too, the company has applied the concept successfully to major campaigns.
TBWA Worldwide Chairman Jean-Marie Dru states “the pace at which the Indian economy is growing, the country will be one of the top 10 markets within the next two years. Second, India is not only a base to service our global clients but also to innovate with its vast diversity, which makes us believe that we must invest in the country.” “Omnicom as a group is very focused on India.”

Hello Everyone,
GE Healthcare, the $17 billion health solutions business of General Electric Co, is acquiring a dual focus in India which is both similar to what it has for other emerging markets and also different. It is targeting emerging markets as a critical growth area; however, India is also rapidly becoming a key geography where some of the innovative products to address the market at the bottom of the pyramid are being developed.
Towards this end, it has lined up a set of launches over the next 18 months, says Ashish Shah, general manager for GE Healthcare’s Global Technology Organization in India. By the end of this year, it will launch MAC 600, an enhanced and upgraded version of the MAC 400, the ECG device “designed, sourced and manufactured in India” for markets like India, which was launched last year.
MAC 400 was developed looking at what is needed to deliver affordable heathcare in India and then building a viable business proposition which incorporates the latest technologies. Though priced at the higher end, GE Healthcare says it should be able to deliver ECG reports at less than a dollar (Rs 50).
The device took 18 months to develop at GE’s John F Welch Research Centre in Bangalore at, by global standards, a remarkably low cost of half-a-million dollars. The engineers in Bangalore, led by Shah, set out to develop something that was simple to operate, could be put into a backpack (it weighs 1.1 kg, far less than a laptop) and ran on rechargeable battery.
The machine has embedded software incorporating industry gold standard algorithm which analyses the data collected by the probes and interprets them in the printout in English. To cut costs and development time, off-the-shelf components were used as much as possible. For example, the printout is done by the same component used to print a bus ticket. It is manufactured by Wipro GE Healthcare at Whitfield on the outskirts of Bangalore.

Hello Everyone,
The year 2010 will be the tipping point for the next tidal wave of demand on electronic gadgets. There are two distinct trends that will trigger this wave.
The convergence of communication and computing is not anything new, but the trend will see acceleration through smart devices and cloud computing.
At one end, PC and mobile phone will converge through smartphones, netbooks and Internet Access Devices (IADs). Rich user experience—through intuitive gestures, and touch and feel devices—and easy social networking—through messages and A/V—will be the prime drivers. They will tap into the remote intelligence of computing and storage to deliver applications and content. Multiple gadgets will get replaced with one driven by usability and mobility.
At the other end, the cloud computing that was threatening to revolutionise how IT gets delivered will become reality. IT will start getting delivered as utility like the way water and electricity gets delivered today. The end user won't need to know the storage or plumbing, but focus on usage to derive benefits out of IT. This will ensure the benefits of IT are not limited to large enterprises, but also percolate down to SMEs and the common man thus triggering the next wave of demand.

Hello Everyone,
The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil inaugurated an ‘Exhibition of Innovations’ in the President’s Estate of Rashtrapati Bhavan today. This is perhaps the first time ever that a Head of State anywhere, has hosted an exhibition of innovations. The showcasing of this exhibition is in consonance with the vision of the President and inspiration received by the nation, following the declaration of this decade as the ‘Decade of Innovation’. The President feels that the ‘business as usual’ approach will not do and there is a need for focusing on new ways of doing things in this decade. The event is therefore a lead taken by Rashtrapati Bhavan in this direction.
The exhibition places before the public, innovations principally from grassroots innovators from unorganized sectors. The Exhibition will be open for viewing to the public from March 10 to 14 from 1000 hrs to 1700 hrs. Entry would be from Gate No. 35 of Rashtrapati Bhavan, situated near North Avenue.
