  I am a simple expatriate currently working in the mining industry in Indonesia.

  For Indonesia, I had spent a whole year living in Pelaihari, South Kalimantan followed by a "return to civilization", to metropolitan Jakarta. Give and take, I had been working in Indonesia for three (3) years now and I am fortunate enough to be finally able to converse moderately in "Bahasa Indonesia" but not too confident in the reading bit ..
  
  Here is a little story on "Culture Shock"
  
  In the town of Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan) where I frequent where is in comparison between Jakarta and Banjarmasin (FYI) is simply like night & day. Jakarta as many know is a modern city that accommodates many cultures and religion but unlike Jakarta, Banjarmasin is a strict Muslim Region. For example, during the Muslim fasting month, all restaurants are closed and no one, Muslim or not are allowed to eat or even smoke in public. If caught, one can be apprehended by the authorities. Pretty extreme yea?
