About me

SThree is Europe's leading recruitment agency. From our first office in London in 1986 we have grown purely organically across the UK and Ireland, Continental Europe, Australia, Asia, the US and the Middle East, with plans to open additional international offices. As we continue to expand in specialist sectors that offer attractive margins, our focus is one of sustainable growth in cash generative markets – a continuation of the successful strategy that has served us well for more than 25 years.

The presence of our brands in the market place is owed initially to two men, both of whom are still closely linked to the running of the company and are part of our Group Directorate. Simon was a Recruitment consultant who successfully placed Bill, a Business Analyst, in various roles. As their working relationship developed the opportunity arose to form their own company, so with careful planning and a lot of hard work, Computer Futures was born in 1986. Our first office was on Blandford Street, in London, and it is here where Bill and Simon recruited our first 3 Trainee consultants, one being our current CEO.

Now being a successful staffing company, the sheer scale of our operations is impressive. At present we have 56 offices in 16 countries, circa 2,500 staff and a diverse client base of over 27,000 clients, and we are still expanding. We provide the whole spectrum of recruitment services, from database search, to online recruitment, major accounts and headhunting. The main Companies in our Group are Computer Futures, Progressive Recruitment, Huxley Associates, Jp gray., Orgtel and Real Staffing.

Our story doesn’t stop there, we’re still writing it, we're just looking for new talents to join us and create it! Currently we are looking for Trainees for the locations Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart.

What is Recruitment Consultancy?
Recruitment Consultancy is sometimes understandably mistaken as a Human Resources opportunity, when it is actually a fast paced and exciting sales role. The position is varied - our consultants are expected to be advisers, business developers, sales executives, marketers, interviewers and much more.
By reading further we hope to dispel any myths that you may have about recruitment and truly explain what a fantastic career opportunity a role in recruitment can be.

What is the job about and what are we looking for?
We like to think of a career in recruitment as a hidden secret, with only the lucky few discovering what it means to be a Recruitment Consultant. The role is a varied and fast paced sales position, not a typical 9-5 role, where you will be responsible for much more than "finding people the right job".
To be successful at this role you do not need technical knowledge (you are placing the specialists, you do not have to be one yourself). You do need to be ambitious and have a lot of self-motivation as a large proportion of this role is telesales; selling the recruitment services of our company to our clients, which also involves face-to-face meetings. However, to maximize the impact of the meeting, we have a company presentation, which helps to sell our services, and every consultant will get training on how to deliver our message.
Finally, emphasis is placed on the idea “every good meeting ends with the next step”.
The role of a Recruitment Consultant is best thought of in four easy stages:

Clients
• Actively canvass clients through cold calling, selling our recruitment services
• Managing your own time, organising your day to maximise your productivity
• Network through clients and expand contact lists by developing new relationships and, in turn, new business

Candidates
• Writing adverts to attract new talents
• Searching our well established database for appropriate candidates
• Short-listing CVs for the suitability of a particular role (a telephone based interview)

Interviews
• Preparing both candidates and clients for interview
• Managing the interview process itself
• Negotiating with candidates and clients about notice periods, salaries, fees, etc.

Close
• Taking verbal references
• Keeping in touch with candidates and clients - to ensure that they are both happy with their placement, but also for leads and to gather further information about the company
• Building rapport and trust with your clients and candidates to ensure repeat business

Below you can find a description a Recruitment Consultant made of his day:

"My working day starts quite early – hours are long as a consultant, there’s always someone to be spoken to, but this is more than made up for by the rewards of the job. Most people generally arrive in the office between 7.45 and 8.30 with breakfast in hand, and begin the day checking any emails that have come in and planning the key tasks for the day. By 9 the caffeine has kicked in and the energy levels of the office have risen ready for the days work – the office is a very lively, dynamic environment, with a great sense of camaraderie and some big characters! The first couple of hours of my day typically involves a mixture of canvassing for potential business by cold calling managers on our database, and qualifying candidates who have applied for roles during the night. Making sure that I chase up any potential roles and leads that I may have from the night before.
One constant of my job is that no two days are the same – it’s pretty much guaranteed that by 10am I would have taken an unexpected call that throws my days plan way off course. This could be pulling a job, a candidate not turning up for an interview as promised, or a whole range of other challenges that keep my role varied!"

First and foremost, a recruitment consultant working for one of the SThree’s brands is an individual. Because every member of staff has the potential opportunity to effectively run their own business, we encourage free thinking and new ideas. Many of our people are graduates, although this is by no means a prerequisite for the role.
There are many qualities needed to become a successful recruitment consultant; energy, intelligence, drive, confidence and, above all, an unshakeable belief in you and an unwavering desire to succeed. It isn't easy, but when the potential rewards are so high you wouldn't expect it to be. Of course, we expect you to keep your side of the bargain. This is not a steady nine-to-five job. It could almost be described as a way of life, where you show unquestionable commitment and work whatever hours are necessary to achieve your goals.

Recruitment is a sales role so you must be self-motivated and prepared to give whatever it takes to achieve the best results and rewards. You will have strong persuasion skills and a highly competitive attitude. Previous experience is not necessary as a comprehensive training programme is provided. However, some sales experience would be an advantage.

The work is mainly telephone based, so you should have a clear and confident manner and be able to sell the company and yourself above other agencies. You must also be able to build strong, trusting relationships with candidates. Other responsibilities include pre-screening CVs, organising interviews and writing advertising copy for the trade press and online media.
