About me

Sent from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the United States as a diplomat to foster a stronger relationship, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba presented his credentials and assumed the position of Ambassador on July 28, 2008. Honored by the National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce as Ambassador of the Year, he claims that the maintenance of powerful commercial ties between the nations remains a core part of his mission in the U.S. Functioning as the largest market for U.S. export in the Middle East, the UAE continues to flourish in this role under the leadership of Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba. Though most of the UAE’s wealth relies on the oil industry, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba states that the UAE strives to set a good example by investing money in the research and development of renewable energies.

Prior to serving as Ambassador, Yousef Al Otaiba functioned as Director of International Affairs for the Court of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi in the UAE. Additionally, he advised the Crown Prince who also holds the title Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. In these two roles, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba increased regional security and defense cooperation by acting as an anti-terrorism and defense liaison to other nations. In an attempt to promote stronger trade relations between other governments and economic interests, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba facilitated meetings and multinational talks on sovereign wealth funds, creating mutually beneficial partnerships.

Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba’s globally minded perspective began with his education at Cairo American College in Egypt and continued at Georgetown University, where he graduated with a degree in international relations. On top of his work as Ambassador, Yousef Al Otaiba contributes to charities such as the Children’s National Medical Center, and he functions as founder of the Oasis Foundation of Washington DC, an organization that strives to foster better understandings between the UAE and the U.S. through cross-cultural investments.
