Externus Communication was founded in 2008 by Andreas Herren, who is also the Managing Director of the company. In the first three years of its existence, the company has acquired and successfully carried out a number of mandates. Most notably, Andreas Herren served as International communications and media consultant to the Russian Bid Committee, which was awarded the 2018 FIFA World Cup™. Previous and current mandates include work for a series of clients hailing from the sports world, the real estate sector, the wine industry, as well as regulatory bodies. Additional working experiences include media consultancy to the Host City of Zurich for the 2008 UEFA European Championships, assignments by the Asian Football Confederation and work as lecturer for the International Sports Institute (CIES) of the University of Neuchâtel and for the University of Applied Sciences in Zurich.

From 1986 to 2008 Andreas Herren worked for the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), ten years of which in his capacity as Head of the Media department. Having worked in a demanding international environment which included five World Cup tournaments, he comes equipped with a wealth of experience and a global network of media and sports-related contacts.

Originally starting out as qualified translator (ETI) with a degree from the University of Geneva, Andreas Herren extended his knowledge of communications and passed his exams in 2005 as Executive Master of Corporate Communication Management at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland in Olten.
