T.a.v. Nederlandse leden: wat ik hèb met Xing
Ik was al een tijdje behoorlijk enthousiast over het fenomeen "community building", óók toen ons daartoe nog geen "social software" ter beschikking stond: webdiensten die mensen met een gelijk(e) belang(stelling) helpen om handiger met elkaar om te gaan.
Mijn eerste kennismaking met Xing was een echte eye opener.
Ten eerste vond ik daar een hele reeks kant-en-klare functionaliteiten en applicaties, die je op geen van de andere social software-websites zó compleet krijgt aangeboden. En vervolgens merkte ik aan den lijve dat Xing daaraan steeds nieuwe interessante applicaties toevoegt.
Ten tweede vind ik de totaal open structuur van Xing verre te prefereren boven de aan allerlei beperkende en bedillerige regeltjes onderworpen concurrerende netwerken.
Bij Xing wordt de mate van bescherming van privcay-gevoelige gegevens helemaal overgelaten aan elk individueel lid - en zo hóórt 't natuurlijk ook: het leidt tot een maximale bescherming van privacy en data-integriteit.
Toen de oprichter van Xing, Lars Hinrichs, me in de herfst van 2004 vroeg om te helpen bij de introductie van OpenBC (nu dus: Xing) op de Nederlandse markt, heb ik daar dan ook meteen JA op gezegd.
