About me
Beginnings
Today, Brett Tollman lives in California, but he is originally from South Africa. He first moved to America to pursue his academic career at Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York and has lived and worked in the United States ever since. At Cornell, Tollman earned his formal academic degree, a BSc. in Hotel Administration; he graduated in 1983. Upon graduation, Tollman began gaining professional experience in the field. Following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, Brett Tollman is a fourth-generation hotelier.
Professional Career in the Travel Industry
His first major leadership position was as President and COO of T-H Hotels in New York. In this role, Tollman was responsible for managing 150 franchise hotels with over 4,000 workers. His work included overseeing the daily operations as well as long-term sales and marketing goals for the growth of the company.
In the mid-nineties, Brett Tollman began working for his family-owned business, The Travel Corporation, a company that his father founded when Brett was still in his youth. Tollman’s first role in the company was Vice-Chairman where he was responsible for representing the Travel Corporation with the World Travel and Tourism Council. He was also involved in the company’s North America and Australia sales offices. He then also began working as the CEO of Red Carnations Hotels, a collection of boutique luxury hotels owned by The Travel Corporation. As CEO, Tollman was involved in the overall leadership and growth of the hotel chain, expanding the number of hotels from three to twelve properties across four countries. Other brands owned by The Travel Corporation include: Trafalgar Tours, Contiki Holidays, Insight Vacations, Creative Holidays, AAT Kings, Uniworld, Brendan Vacations and African Travel.
In 2010, The Travel Corporation held an international conference in South Africa which explored initiatives to promote tourism. During the conference, Brett Tollman presented special awards to Lucille Sive, president of Lion World Tours for over 25 years of professional dedication to the industry and her success in making Lion World Tours one of the leading tour operators in North America specializing in Southern and East Africa travel. Also, John Boulding, global MD of Insight Vacations, received the company’s top executive award for 2010.
Asia
With years of experience in Asia and with a deep comprehension of China as an outbound market, TTC has become a leader in China relating to their needs and satisfaction levels. With their expanding business development there, Brett Tollman together with Stanley Tollman and Gavin Tollman recently met with dominant leaders from the travel trade in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, for this significant venture.
This high level visit by the TTC leaders enabled a healthy connection between themselves and their Asian partners in attaining a direct vision to the fast emerging Asian market, where TTC has already had an establishment for the last 15 years.
Travel Corporation Conservation Foundation
The Travel Corporation founded the Travel Corporation Conservation Foundation (TCF) in order to help address the need for strengthening ecologically sensitive areas where the company’s tourists travel to, and also promoting a responsible and eco-conscious tourism agenda. TCF is a non-profit organization which prides itself in being a primary sponsor for the “Tourism for Tomorrow Awards” with Travelport. Tourism for Tomorrow Awards recognize travel and tourism operators for their work and dedication to sustainable tourism practices.
