About me
Previously:
I grew up in Germany's Rhineland, where I happily lived the first three decades of my life -- at least when I wasn't away hiking in the Himalayas or driving a beat-up VW through remote parts of Brazil (things like this tended to happen often).
After graduating with a degree in Psychology, I spent almost a decade working at the intersection of Internet, Telecoms, Media and Advertising in my home country.
In 2005, I stored my former life in my grandmother's attic and moved to Japan to spend some time inside the giant pinball machine also known as Tokyo. "Some time" turned out to become almost five hugely interesting years in one of the most awesome cities on this planet, most of which I spent working as SVP Research & Strategy at mobile consultancy Infinita.
Every professional role I have ever had, either as an independent consultant or an employee, has featured heavy doses of marketing, research, strategy and communications, which is exactly the way I like it. I am a regular speaker at conferences and industry events worldwide, the main motivation for this being that I truly enjoy sharing knowledge and helping others grow.
As a combined result of both personal passion and professional necessity, I have visited 40 countries and used more dodgy airlines than I care to remember. I speak four languages more or less fluently, I'm a distinguished practitioner of the culinary arts, and I hold an unofficial black belt in taming Chihuahuas.
Apart from all this, I have sold a lot of apples at the vegetable counter of the local supermarket in my hometown, made people dance, almost launched a magazine, been interviewed on an Indonesian rural radio station, and moonlighted as a copywriter and translator (which I still do for fun occasionally).
