About me
In life as well as in business, one must have a mission. My mission for life is, How may I contribute to the success of humanity? I joined the International Monetary Fund on this mission and I took early retirement from it because I found it inadequately inefficient in executing its own mission. And, it was not alone as there has always been some missing key elements in every organization in which I belonged, including Novartis.
Having been educated in the Western tradition, I noted its individual-centered approach. And, having been raised in the Chinese culture, I noted the stress on collective action. I searched for the golden mean and the middle path that would integrate West and East. I found many hints in the opera of Peter F. Drucker's writings and that led me to the Drucker and Ito School of Management in Claremont, California, where I obtained an EMBA.
At a personal level, I learned from my father that I would be part of the 26th "土" generation descendants of 朱熹, from 菱湖, 浙江. I have lived in many parts of the US and in the Suisse Romande. 我的中文還可以. Et, je ne parle pas encore le francaise couramment. I've visited most of Europe and even Saudi Arabia, but I have only visited China twice.
Finally, I was so full of it, hubris of having achieved something in knowledge management and the learning organization in the 1990's, before it was in vogue, until I found out that Drucker had written about the knowledge worker in the 1950's.
As Confucius stated, some two and half millennia ago, I see three people ahead, and I see my teacher. We are all students and teachers to each other. Let us learn and teach, together.
