About me

I am a "shrink" who has "expanded". A qualified psychiatrist, I have empowered myself in multiple domains in which I have gained extensive experience. An innovator, and "out of box" thinker, I love taking on new challenges that expand my horizons.
 
Dr. Gauthamadas is a Professor in Psychiatry and Senior Consultant in Neuro-behavioral medicine who has been practicing his specialty since 1985.
 
He graduated in Medicine from University of Madras in 1980 and then trained for 2 years in Neurology and Psychiatry at the National Institute for Mental Heath & Neurosciences.
 
Dr. Gautham holds a Diploma in Psychological Medicine, MD in Psychiatry, Diploma in Child Behaviour and Development, and PhD.
 
In the aftermath of the Tsunami, he decided to lend his expertise to alleviating trauma of the disaster stricken. Taking charge as Director, of the Academy for Disaster Management Education Planning & Training he successfully developed and implemented long-term disaster healthcare and psychosocial intervention projects in 51 villages Tsunami affected villages in Cuddalore District of Tamilnadu 156 quake affected villages in Kashmir. His Handbook for Community Counselor Trainers is recognized by UNDP and Library of Congress as a valuable resource. IHehas been quoted in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – Mission 2009 document on the Tsunami threat in the Pacific.

Dr. Gautham was instrumental in getting the University of Madras to introduce concessions for students with Learning disabilities in 2004.
 
His popular appearances on Jaya TV’s channel produced “Iniya Illam” program every Thursday morning (11-11.30 am) to deliver informative tips about mental illness and mental health ran for nearly four years (February 2006 to October 2009) with more than 180 appearances.
 
Dr. Gautham has appeared on NDTV 24X7 alongside personalities such as Kapil Sibal. He has also done live phone-in Q & A programs on Sun TV, Podhigai, Raj TV, and Jaya TV. He has written articles on various mental health issues for various newspapers and magazines including the Times Group, and the Hindu.
