Gernot WOLFRAM, MD
Gernot Wolfram is a clinical project leader with a career profile in pharmaceutical research and development, contract research organisations, pharmaceutical consultancy, academic research and curative care. He has developed his core competencies in an international environment through a variety of positions in community-based and academic hospitals, company start-ups and consultancy, with a strong background in Pharmaceutical industries.
Gernot completed his MD in medicine at Munich University in 1988 and began his career in preclinical research in a number of academic institutions. After two years working in pharmacology research institutes in Munich, he started his professional training in internal medicine in 1990 at the cardiology and gastroenterology department of the District Hospital of Traunstein/Bavaria. At the end of 1992 he returned to Munich once again to work as a Senior House Officer at the Department of Internal Medicine of the Munich University. Concomitantly, he started to work as an investigator for clinical phase 2/proof of concept studies in cardiovascular and hemostaseological indications.
From 1995 to 2000 he worked for the German Aerospace Centre Cologne and University Aachen and was responsible for planning, conduct and reporting of clinical phase 1 and phase 2 studies in a variety of therapeutic areas, ie, cardiology, CNS, allergology and metabolic disorders. In parallel he started his career as emergency physician for the Resident Doctors´Association of Cologne. At the beginning of 2001 he joined Accenture GmbH Düsseldorf, with responsibility for developing and implementing change management processes in the pharmaceutical industry.
From 2002 to 2003 he worked for Grunenthal GmbH in Aachen as Marketing Manager, where he implemented marketing strategies for the commercialisation of the company’s pain portfolio. At the beginning of 2003 he moved to the R&D department as a Clinical Expert and continued as Clinical Lead with responsibility for development of New Technical Entities and New Molecular Entities in acute and chronic pain indications as well as due diligence evaluation of NTE/NMEs.
In June 2008 Gernot joined Pfizer Ltd. in Sandwich/UK as Clinician for late phase projects in pain indications of the Primary Care BU. Since 2010 his responsibilities expanded to clinical program lead involving strategic planning of late development projects, leading transition of positive Proof-of-Concept (POC) projects from research into business unit, and line management functions. As Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Neuroscience/Pain Gernot leverages his extensive expertise in acute/chronic pain across multiple indications. He is substantially involved in due diligence and evaluation of inlicensing opportunities for the company's analgesic portfolio.
