The Gottlieb Schumacher Institute specializes in the study of the European involvement in Palestine in the 19th and early 20th centuries, a period which corresponds to the last phase of Ottoman rule. It deals with European views on Palestine, the policies and positions of European countries, the creation of European enterprises, and the activities of European individuals and communities. Special emphasis is placed on the role played by Europeans in the development of the country. Attitudes and views of the local population toward Europe and Europeans are also within the Institute's scope.
