About me
I was IEEE Swiss section president from April 2009 to April 2011. I am an active professional leadership trainer and workshop facilitator for IEEE, the world's largest society of professionals.
I enjoy challenging myself in mental and physical ways and hence have created innovative methodologies for improvement for teams, business enterprises and industries. In the past few years I have taken on more teaching and coaching roles in addition to my process engineering, assessment and quality management roles. I consider myself a 'Pracademic' - a practical academic. First and foremost is my practical orientation from decades of work in private enterprise. This is supported by my part-time academic research into People-Process-Product (my holistic model for management), training development and teaching.
STARS is one result of my Pracademic work - a way for individuals, teams and enterprises to excel. Practical Process Profiles is another. It uses risk as a means to determine what key processes need to be improved and managed best to improve an enterprise and increase ROI.
I like to create quotes that capture part of my thinking and reflect my practical orientation. Sometimes they come at the most inconvenient times - like when I have been mountaineering above 4000m in the alps, or in the middle of the night (at least then I have a notepad handy to capture them).
Three thoughts and quotes
"Good management creates good performance, good leadership creates great performance."
"I know that I don’t know everything but I hope I know what I need to know."
Dubya's weapons of mass destruction:
1. The Kyoto protocol refusal
2. The unregulated Investment banking (sic) industry
I am a practicing photographer and graphic artist - My image is superimposed over one variant of my corporate logo, a global variant of Yin-Yang.
Besides my mental gymnastics, I enjoy skiing (2008 and 2012 were great seasons), mountain hiking (managed several 4000ers) and glacier hiking, golf (I have fallen out of practice so who knows what handicap level I play today), a little cycling, and most of all meeting interesting people!
