After burning about 1 cbm (~1000 ltrs equivalent to abt. 8000 km) of Diesel with our RV (Camper or Reisemobil - in German)  during a trip around the Iberian peninsula (Jan. 6 thru April 28) we returned safely at home.

In the meantime I discovered and got from
http://www.sks.to
the very interesting book on "Climate Change Denials - Heads in the Sand" by H.Washington and J.Cook.

At the same time from the preface of this book I discovered the excellent Naomi Oreskes - who wrote "Merchants of Doubt" - which I ordered from
http://www.Amazon.de
and a lot of peer-reviewed literature ...

I am preparing a 10 to 20 hour talk (in powerpoint) about climate physics which I am planning to give at various sites in Germany.

Parallel to all the activities of the last year I digged into the physical science of climate change. In particular I started a vast literature investigation beginning with the IPCC-reports (AR4 and TAR) - got involved into the physical background of the various models used. In particular I started the physics of Radiative Transfer and a bit of solar physics.

The amount of data and literature I collected on my hard-disk amounts now up to 2 GB (GigaBytes!) ... almost impossible to get everything into one head (mine!) ...

One sideeffect was: I started to program in Python recently - it is a very handy tool to check some Calculus being done by other scientists. As an example I could recalculate the "wobbling of the sun" around the barycenter of our planetary system .... this is based on the JPL (NASA) data and was first published to my knowledge by N. Scafetta. There will certainly be other calculus in the future...

One funny thing is - I stepped into a "mantrap" recently going into a blog of a senior climate scientist. Being myself a bit sloppy in formulating my post I got "bitten" by an ankle-biter of this blogger and it shows how sensitive those people are - I really do not understand it! Somehow we live in a scientific world and there a so-called principle of "Freedom of Information" holds ...

Last fall I was asked by SES (http://www.ses-bonn.de) to pursue a project in Ecuador. It should be a systems analysis for a small Hospital in Riobamba, about 200 km south of Quito (http://hospitalandino.org/  this page works however has some faulty entries at the beginning - just scroll further down).

The interesting thing of that particular hospital (Hospital Andino Alternativo de Chimborazo) is that there are three medical areas under one roof:

The traditional medicine of the Andes (medicina andina with Yashaks etc.)
The traditional - allopathic - medicine (also called "school-medicine")
The alternative medicine (like Akupuncture, Biomagnetism etc.)

The most part of the hospital are outpatients - however there are about 20 beds and an operating room available. The hospital belongs to the catholic church which means there is a lot of people being treated who do not have much or even no money which henceforth means there is some support for those people ... being covered by funding from abroad (Germany).

The systems analysis was carried out using the standard methods of UML (Unified Modelling Language - using "Rational Rose" and since shorty "Visual Paradigm UML") and the result was a document of requirements with a lot of Use Case Diagrams, some Sequential Diagrams and a lot of textual description.

The next step will be to find a vendor or sponsor who is able to fulfill these requirements while certainly due to costs some of the requirements might be adapted to the possibilities of the offered system.

There was no further IT work or project. I was going more deeply into music because that brings more fun. Moreover I think with my age (*'01/1937) that kind of work is no more necessary. But anyway I like programming.

So I travelled a bit. We have now a rather comfortable R.V. (recreational vehicle = Reisemobil) and that gives us (my wife and myself) a higher degree of flexibility.

Recently we were in South-West Europe (Northern Spain and France) enjoying the Pyrenees and the Sierra de la Demande, and a bit of the St. Jacobs-trail.

2005

I was a while in La Paz, Bolivia (2005-03-12 until 2005-05-02) doing some voluntary work in IT ... see under "Google-Earth" - La Paz ... beautiful mountains and area.

Being back from that gorgeous stay in La Paz I have enjoyed the friendship of the very nice people of the SOS children's village in Mallasa, La Paz. Also the working situation was very impressive. There is a centre for professional training (Cenfopro - centro de formacion profesional) for some IT-carreers. They teach graphic design, information technology and assistance of management.

I did some voluntary work on behalf of SES-Bonn (http://www.ses-bonn.de - in total almost 2 months) in the area of Information technology:

1. Teaching and coaching of LINUX system administration. A course of that topic is now available in Spanish language.

2. Starting a project and process of adapting the German system of apprenticeship in the area of IT (Duales Ausbildungssystem: Die neuen IT-Berufe)

Passed project (10/2005):
Sophisticated display of data of a Multimeter (TES 2730) under QNX 6 and Photon:
- OS: QNX 6
- Prg.Lang.: C
- Libraries: Photon

Previous project (12/2004):
Sound analysis for musical instruments - based on FFT .
- OS: LINUX
- Prg.Lang.: C++
- Libraries: Qt, FFTW
