About me
I run SoftMetaWare, an international group of leading experts in Model Engineering.
SoftMetaWare provides strategic technology management advice to software start-ups, fast growing companies in software intensive industries, and large public sector organizations. The business model is based on knowledge transfer. In practical terms this means helping software organizations to get more done in less time and with less manual effort.
Personal
My work is international but my home base is in New Zealand, close to the ocean. As far as possible I try to get out on the water at least once a week. For some odd reason I tend to gravitate to equipment intensive activities, such as dinghy sailing, wind surfing, or sea kayaking. What toy gets pulled out of the garage depends entirely on the weather and water conditions, and the range of options ensures that "downtime" is minimized.
I have a strong interest in protecting the marine environment, which is currently threatened in most parts of the world by intensive fishing, pollution, and global warming. If you are active in this space, please get in touch for an exchange of thoughts and collaboration on concrete initiatives. Have posted some pictures at

Professional
I am passionate about the industrialization of software asset development and have co-authored three books that cover the technology, engineering, and management aspects of large scale software development and Model Driven Software Development (MDSD) from a practitioner’s perspective.
My background: International track record in guiding large software organizations through difficult technology transitions/paradigm shifts, for example after mergers and acquisitions. Worked in methodology leadership roles in an IBM product development lab, initiated the Eclipse Generative Modeling Tools Open Source project, and - back in 1994/5 - have led the development of LANSA/RUOM, the most successful model driven code generator for the IBM iSeries platform.
Some scenarios where I can help:
(1) You are a software development organisation, and you are struggling with quality, time to market, cost, and/or technology issues. See
(2) You are a venture capitalist and need assistance in perfoming comprehensive organisational assessments and due diligence of software organisations. I can also step in to bring poorly performing software companies back on track. See
(3) You are a are high quality software development service proider and have the courage to specialise and take on product development work for other organisations. See
