About Jürgen Scheele
Since 2012 I am Medical Director in Project Development Oncology at Hoffmann-La Roche Basel..
from 1.3.2010 to 31.72012 I have been Medical Director at Micromet Gmbh, Munich, Germany being primarily responsible for early clinical development. From 2007 to 2010 I have been Medical Director at Auronhealthcare GmbH in Freiburg, Germany with a workforce of currently 20 employees worldwide, where I am responsible for the entire preclinical and clinical development of therapeutic concepts. As a secondary activity I also head a research team, meanwhile reduced to 3 persons, working in the field of signal transduction at Departement of Hematology and Oncology in Freiburg and sponsored by third-party funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and German Cancer Aid (see below). From 2006 to 2007 I was Director and CEO of KKS Halle with more than 15 employees, including 3 project physicians, 2 doctorate level project managers, 4 study assistants and 3 employees in data management and biometrics, as well as 3 employees specializing in IT. In close cooperation with the study centre of the Working Party on Medical Oncology (AIO; Spokesman: Prof. H.J. Schmoll) we performed numerous international studies in the field of oncology, but also worked closely together with other departments such as the Department of Orthopedics and Casualty Surgery (Director: Prof. Hein). For more than 1 year I was Senior Project Physician and Acting Director at the Center for Clinical Trials (ZKS) /LabConsult in Freiburg. ZKS and LabConsult represent a public-private partnership between a University Department and a privately owned CRO. At that time the Center for Clinical Trials/LabCOnsult employed more than 50 persons, including 7 project physicians in the medical area. The tasks of the Senior Project Physician comprised not only medical supervision but also managerial-organizational activities involving cost calculation and financial planning. Another important function was cooperation and coordination in project management. During the 5 years I spent at the ZKS I coordinated, among other projects, several studies in oncology, some international (see below). Previously, after gaining a triple major in biochemistry, chemisty (Tübingen and San Diego) and human medicine (Tübingen and Heidelberg), I took a doctoral degree in both human medicine (Heidelberg) and biochemistry (Ph.D., UC San Diego). Following an internship in internal medicine and training as a Specialist in Pharmacology/Toxicology, I held a Junior Faculty Position at the University of California in San Diego. I have therefore worked for altogether 9 years in the USA. After returning to Germany, from 1998 onwards I gathered clinical experience in hematology/oncology at the Department of Medicine I (Director: Prof. Roland Mertelsmann) and from 2000 I simultaneously rained as a Specialist in Clinical Pharmacology at the Center for Clinical Trials. At the same time, from 1998 onwards I established and headed a research group in molecular hematology with main focus on signal transduction and granulocyte differentiation, comprising 1 medical-technical assistant, 3 biologists and 3 medical physicians. Members of my working party have repeatedly been awarded scientific research prizes, most recently the Pfizer Research Prize 2004 (Anne Jürgens) and the Merck Senior Researcher Award 2005 (with F. Beuschlein). On behalf of the Department of Medicine I and the Center for Clinical Trials, I also first planned and then established the jointly operated laboratory for gene expression analysis and pharmacogenetics as a service centre for internal and external clients. Although I have 4 years of clinical experience in Hematology/Oncology, I decided to complete my clinical qualification as a Physician Specializing in Clinical Pharmacology in 2003, because this Board Certification also shows my qualification for clinical research in other areas of Medicine. In 2004 I gained my Adj. Assistant Professorship at the Department of Hematology and Oncology. In 2005 I qualified as a Physician Specializing in Pharmacology and Toxicology. In 2010 I was promoted to Adj. Professor at the Department of Hematology and Oncology.
