Dr. Jyn Schultze-Melling

Today, Jyn Schultze-Melling is the Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) of the Allianz group, the German multinational financial services company headquartered in Munich, Germany, employing some 150.000 employees worldwide and with a core business and focus in insurance and financial services. 

Just before that Jyn headed the employee privacy division of Deutsche Bahn AG, a major multinational transportation and logistics group with nearly 300.000 employees worldwide. Being called to Deutsche Bahn, Jyn quit his former position as a partner with Noerr LLP, one of the leading international and independent law firms of German origin. There Jyn used to advise on a broad range of information technology-related subjects and in all kinds of technology transactions. Over the course of his career as a technology attorney, Jyn gained considerable knowledge and experience in all fields of IT compliance including data protection, privacy and information security and from thereon worked closely with his clients to plan and implement their company-wide compliance strategies. 

Having studied internationally and having worked in the New York office of Morrison & Foerster LLP, Jyn today is a recognized expert in the international aspects of international privacy compliance issues. He is listed as a frequently recommended technology attorney in JUVE’s Handbook of Corporate Law Firms, and lectures regularly at the German Lawyers’ Academy (DAA) to prospective IT lawyers. He is also an active member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the German Bar Association’s Information Technology section (DAVIT) and the German Association for Law and Informatics (DGRI). Jyn studied law and earned his Ph.d. at the University of Freiburg and completed his masters degree in IT and telecommunications law at the Strath-clyde University of Glasgow, UK.
