ABOUT CURACAO FIRST

Curaçao is the Pearl and the Capital of the Caribbean

Large corporations, (hedge) funds and wealthy individuals (including classical musicians, pop artists, DJs, athletes, tennis players, golf players, entertainers, composers, fashion models) may benefit from the friendly Curacao tax climate. Dutch Caribbean (Curacao) based companies and foundations can be used to relieve taxes on dividends, interest payments and royalties (royalties can be earned from, e.g., performances, trademarks, copyrights, film rights and patents). It is of importance to mention that Curacao is not listed on any OECD or FATF blacklist. Curacao is OECD and FATF compliant.

Despite the recent revolutionary changes of the fiscal and e-commerce legal framework in Curaçao (Dutch Caribbean), the Island is still not discovered on a broad scale by foreign exporters, especially exporters in Asia (China, Japan, Singapore, India, etc.).

ABOUT KAREL

KAREL FRIELINK is a partner at Spigthoff Attorneys at Law & Tax Advisers. He graduated in Dutch civil law and notarial law at the Free University of Amsterdam. Attorney since 1989. In the Netherlands worked for Russell and Loeff Claeys Verbeke; in Curaçao at Smeets Thesseling Van Bokhorst Spigt and at Loyens & Loeff. Specialties are a.o. corporate law, securities law and e-commerce.

Karel is an experienced litigator. He is a frequent commentator on corporate and securities case law developments and (co-)author of numerous books and articles on various aspects of Dutch and Dutch Caribbean law, and he has also served as a lecturer at the University of the Netherlands Antilles on 'conflict of laws' (private international law). Karel is the author of the leading legal text book on Dutch Caribbean (f.k.a. Netherlands Antilles) and Aruba corporate law (2nd edition 2006; 340 pages).

Memberships: Dutch Bar Association; International Bar Association; Dutch Securities Association; fellow of the Business & Law Research Centre, Radboud University of Nijmegen.

Karel is admitted to both the Amsterdam Bar (the Netherlands) and the Dutch Caribbean Bar. He is residing in the Dutch Caribbean (Curaçao) with a lovely wife (Carla) and two daughters (Yvette en Pascale).
