- Being coached might be the wake up call you need! Having experienced how it is to be an expatriate’s spouse it is easier to have a clear understanding and relate to some of the challenges that you will be or are already facing. All a round me I have seen cases were people were not prepared for the adventure they had already taken on. They focussed on how to get to their new location (logistics) and forgot to think about what will I do once I am there? This is actually a crucial point, reality kicks in, OH MY GOD WE REALLY DID IT, WHAT NOW? Also the point were most people start to throw all kinds of hurdles on the road: I don’t speak the language, I have given up my job and now I lost my independency, its such a culture shock, how will I ever make friends, I am homesick, I am frustrated, I cant find a similar job etc. These are real problems connected to real feelings all forth coming out of uncertainty, isolation or unforeseen circumstances. All together they can put a strain on your relationship/family and you might start to feel like you are living a nightmare (sounds familiar?). Being coached might be the wake up call you need! Our coaching journey starts with your agenda.

About me
In 2007 my partner and I decided we were up for a new challenge and said yes to the opportunity to move to Switzerland. We ended up in Zurich; he as an expatriate, I as a spouse. Determined to make it work for the both of us I left my job as a political policy writer behind me and was keen to secure an interesting job in Zurich. This was easier said than done. Due to a different political system and a language barrier (I didn’t speak any German at all), I was not able to find a similar job. In order to be successful I knew I had to make a plan and set some goals.
Like most people in such a situation I needed to alter an aspect of myself. Realizing there is a big difference between wanting, knowing and doing I had to think of an old Texan saying: most people want to go to heaven, but few of them are willing to die, meaning; I had to step out of my comfort zone in order to create change...and I did. I learned the language and started applying for jobs where my interpersonal skills could be a benefit. I became a recruiter. This job gave me the same ability as before; to contribute to other people’s life.
After working in Recruitment for two years, I became more and more aware of my coaching skills. I decided to leave the job and pursue my dream. This was when I decided to become a professional coach.
