I left Ireland at the end of the 80s and worked in B2B marketing communications and PR for a number of years in the UK - mostly for international clients such as Intel Europe. I've continued to work with blue chip companies over the past 15 years as an independent. And I've lived through the evolution of corporate communications - from promoting an image, through managing reputation, nurturing a brand, and now (at last), authenticity. Amazing that it has taken the worst financial crisis the world has seen - and a shocking absence of individual accountability - to reveal the importance of keeping things real.
 
Work/life balance is important to me - to be a really effective communicator I need to ensure I don't become so "corporate" that I can't speak in plain English or tell a good joke!
