About me

Before turning into the successful professional translator he is today in the northern country (that's U.S.A.), Mario earned –eked out, rather– a living as a brief exports representative for La Paulina in New York, volunteered for several clinical studies (let’s hope he got just the placebos), worked at an antique store for a day and was an unpaid extra in a short film directed by an Argentine, in which the then child actor Michelle Trachtenberg had a role.
 
Mario Chávez, born and raised in Córdoba, Argentina, enrolled in the UNC’s School of Languages in March 1984 and got a graduate degree in English and Translation Studies in December 1989.
 
Having heretofore being a stranger to IICANA’s and Cultura Británica’s classrooms, he drew the most from his English studies in private Catholic schools of his childhood and 5 years of English at a nondescript business high school in the city.
 
In 1990, after turning his back to the meager possibilities offered by the Argentine protectionist translation markets, Mario Chávez migrated to New York City to start out as a translator in the world’s greatest marketplace. As his first job, he worked 8 hours a week as a bilingual admin assistant for a Queens-based interpreting agency.
 
In 1992, armed with new contacts and clients, Mario Chávez struck out on his own as a freelancer, and lived in 5 different states practicing his profession over the course of the next 8 years. He also worked as an in-house translator for software localization for such software companies as Intergraph, Intel and Interactive Intelligence. Two years later, in December 2003, found him with almost two years of added experience as a project manager, after which he returned to freelancing, this time in Florida.
 
Mario Chávez currently spends his days translating for translation agencies and private clients, writing on wordsmeet.wordpress.com, his own blog, and penning the occasional feature for Gotham Translator, .
