  • Short Biography

After studying Computer Science and Electronics and obtaining a doctorate in Communications Theory from the University of Durham he worked for 4 years at Thorn EMI Research on developing innovative electronics systems before moving to Germany to work for IBM's European Network Centre in 1989. Here he was involved in IBM's very first forays into the World Wide Web where he developed solutions with customers based on the Web.

After managing the world's first e-commerce platform (Surf-and-Buy) he spent 5 years with IBM's Outsourcing division responsible for providing innovative solutions in a commercially challenging environment. After establishing a Software Development Process consulting practice he moved to IBM's Emerging Business Opportunities group where he was responsible for mobile solutions, in particular Telemedicine, including the implementation of a full service platform for paediatric dialysis which won worldwide attention as the first project of its kind.

More recently he has been working as lead architect for Big Data Analytics, and Industrie 4.0. He is on the board of directors of the Institute for New Media in Frankfurt, and a member of the board of the BITKOM Working Group on Big Data.
